Courage Meals
Having a healthy meal is difficult even for individuals and families who aren’t facing the additional challenges of cancer. We believe diet is critical and can meaningfully affect treatment outcomes, but finding good meal choices while overwhelmed is hard. It’s from that experience that the Courage Meal was born.
A wise neighbor set up a meal train for Marcia’s family during her first four months of treatment. It offered relief from the shopping, prepping, and cooking of meals while she navigated life with cancer, and gave friends and family a meaningful way to help at a time when they didn’t know what else to say or do.
The Meal Train app is free and easy to use, letting the meal recipient share food preferences, allergies, and delivery instructions. As you support your own cancer warrior, it’s worth considering.
In support of our Courage Meals pillar, we’ve partnered with Ronald McDonald House and the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion at Johns Hopkins to provide meals for families staying away from home during a loved one’s treatment. Those days are exhausting and stressful, and a little easier with comfort and nutrition. There’s no better way to commemorate Courage Day than feeding our courageous families on 10/10. We’ve also delivered Courage Meals on Valentine’s Day (Marcia’s first day of chemo treatment), around her birthday in July, and during the holidays, when being away from home is hardest of all.
